Chungnam History Museum — Gongju Gongsanseong & Jemincheon Old Town

Set on a hill above the old town, this museum tells the story of the Chungcheong region from the Stone Age through the Baekje and Joseon periods. Exhibits are arranged chronologically with models, pottery, tools and videos, and the layout is easy to follow even if you only read a few captions. The galleries tend to be uncrowded, which suits families with school-age children who want somewhere calm and cool.

Outside, the terrace gives a view over the low roofs of the old city toward Bonghwangsan, and a staircase connects it to the red-brick church next door. Entry is free of charge, and it is closed Mondays.

Getting there

A 10-minute walk from the Sanseong Market stop uphill, or park in the museum's own lot. A taxi from the bus terminal takes about ten minutes. (Show a driver: 충청남도역사박물관)
