SightsHistory & palacesPhoto spotsOutdoor

Built in the 1930s on a rise at the east edge of the old town, this red-brick Gothic church is still a working parish. A pointed bell tower, arched windows and bands of decorative brickwork give the facade a tidy symmetry, and the stairway in front is the usual spot for portraits. The interior exists for prayer, so visitors are expected to be quiet and to stay out during services.

From the edge of the yard you look over low rooftops toward the slopes of Bonghwangsan, and in autumn the surrounding trees turn red to match the brick. Thirty minutes is plenty here.

Getting there

Walk about seven minutes from the Sanseong Market stop. Drivers can leave the car at the History Museum lot and climb the connecting steps. (Show a driver: 공주중동성당)
