Banjuk-dong Flagpole Supports & Gongju Boarding-House Village 반죽동 당간지주·공주하숙마을
Gongju · Gongsanseong & Jemincheon Old Town · Sights
A pair of stone pillars once held a banner pole at the entrance of Daetongsa, a Baekje temple, and today they stand in a small park among the houses of Banjuk-dong. The surrounding lanes used to be lined with boarding houses where students from the countryside lived while attending Gongju's schools. Part of that memory has been preserved as a small guesthouse cluster and wall paintings that recall the old days.
There is not much to see in a formal sense, yet the overlap of a 1,500-year-old temple site with a boarding-house alley makes for an interesting block.
It is a 12-minute walk from Sanseong Market along the stream, or three minutes from the public lot near the literature museum. (Show a driver: 반죽동 당간지주·공주하숙마을)
