Banjuk-dong Flagpole Supports & Gongju Boarding-House Village 반죽동 당간지주·공주하숙마을

A pair of stone pillars once held a banner pole at the entrance of Daetongsa, a Baekje temple, and today they stand in a small park among the houses of Banjuk-dong. The surrounding lanes used to be lined with boarding houses where students from the countryside lived while attending Gongju's schools. Part of that memory has been preserved as a small guesthouse cluster and wall paintings that recall the old days.

There is not much to see in a formal sense, yet the overlap of a 1,500-year-old temple site with a boarding-house alley makes for an interesting block.

Getting there

It is a 12-minute walk from Sanseong Market along the stream, or three minutes from the public lot near the literature museum. (Show a driver: 반죽동 당간지주·공주하숙마을)

Best time to visit
Late afternoon into evening, when the lanes feel lived-in and the cafes are open.
Pair it with
Chestnut Friends and Na Tae-ju Grass Flower Literature Museum are both nearby, and Jemincheon Stream Walk runs just beside the lanes.
Great for
Solo travelers
Local tip
Look for the pair of stone posts first, then wander the lanes behind them. The boarding-house lodgings have only a few rooms, so book early for weekends.
