Donghwasa Temple 동화사
Daegu · Palgongsan & Dongchon · Sights

Founded more than a thousand years ago, Donghwasa is the main temple of Mount Palgong, set among forest on the north side of Daegu. The most striking sight is the giant seated Buddha of Unification, over thirty meters tall, standing in the grounds. Quiet halls, old stone pagodas and a stream run through the complex, and the surrounding hillsides turn red in late October and early November.
The temple offers temple stay programs for overnight visitors. Dress modestly, speak softly and do not photograph worshippers. Admission rules can change, so confirm at the gate.
Give yourself an hour and a half to walk the grounds slowly.
From the Dongdaegu Station area take Express Bus 1 toward Palgongsan, which runs to the temple entrance in about an hour. Drivers pay for the temple lot. (Show a driver: 동화사)
