Gongju National Museum 국립공주박물관
Gongju · Muryeong Tomb, Museum & Gomanaru · Museums & exhibits
This national museum holds the finest treasures from Baekje's Ungjin period, and above all the objects taken from King Muryeong's tomb. Among them are delicate gold ornaments that decorated the king's and queen's headgear, jewelry, a bronze mirror and a carved stone guardian beast placed to ward off evil. Labels carry English, and the gallery layout makes the sequence from tomb to treasure easy to follow.
A children's area and hands-on programs make it a good family stop, and the building has a pleasant hillside garden. Admission has been free for the permanent exhibits, so it also suits a rainy day.
From Gongju Intercity Bus Terminal take a taxi or city bus, roughly ten to fifteen minutes; there is a large parking lot on site. It sits beside the royal tombs. (Show a driver: 국립공주박물관)
