Tomb of King Muryeong and Royal Tombs 공주 무령왕릉과 왕릉원
Gongju · Muryeong Tomb, Museum & Gomanaru · Sights
The Songsan-ri hillside holds the tombs of Baekje kings, and the star is the burial of King Muryeong, who ruled in the early sixth century. It was found intact in 1971, one of very few royal tombs of the period to survive unlooted. The real brick chamber is closed to protect it, but a replica hall at the entrance reproduces the interior and explains how the tomb was built and what was found.
Together with Gongsanseong, the site belongs to the UNESCO-listed Baekje Historic Areas. Plan roughly an hour and a half with the museum, and note that small admission fees and hours may change.
Take a city bus or taxi from the old town, about ten minutes; it is also a 20-minute walk from the National Museum. A parking lot sits at the entrance. (Show a driver: 공주 무령왕릉과 왕릉원)
