Imdang-dong Catholic Church 임당동성당

Gangneung · Downtown & Jungang Market · Sights

SightsHistory & palacesPhoto spotsOutdoor

Built in the 1950s, this church is among the best-looking older buildings in the center of Gangneung. Its pointed arches, brick walls and tall tower echo European Gothic design, but in a modest, local scale. The interior is for worshippers, so most visitors admire the exterior and the tidy grounds, then move on.

The visit takes a quarter of an hour at most. It is best treated as a pleasant stop on a downtown walk, not a destination in itself. If the doors are open, step in quietly and avoid photographing people at prayer.
