Gangneung Jungang & Seongnam Markets 강릉중앙시장·성남시장
Gangneung · Downtown & Jungang Market · Shopping
Traditional markets give you the clearest picture of everyday life in a Korean city, and these two, side by side in the center of Gangneung, are lively without being overwhelming. The best-known snacks are dakgangjeong, small pieces of crunchy fried chicken in a sweet-spicy glaze, fish-cake croquettes, a bun filled with spicy jjamppong noodles and squid stuffed with rice. A basement food court serves raw fish in the evening.
Stalls are casual and prices are posted. Many stalls accept cards, but carry some cash. Hours vary by shop.
It is about 10 minutes by taxi from Gangneung Station (강릉역), or an easy bus ride to Jungang Market. The market has paid parking nearby.
