Hwanbyeokdang Pavilion — Damyang Soswaewon, Sigyeongjeong & Gasa Literature District
Photo: Korea Tourism Organization (KOGL)

Hwanbyeokdang was built by Kim Yun-je, and tradition says the young Jeong Cheol lived and studied here under his patronage. It stands at the edge of a stream with trees around it, and although it lies in Gwangju's northern district, a short path links it to Sigyeongjeong, so most visitors combine the two. It is a small, quiet stop with no entry fee.

Plan about 40 minutes. The pavilion floor is for looking, so respect rules posted on site. Signs are in Korean, so a translation app helps.

The nearby lake path makes a pleasant addition.

Getting there

Walk from Sigyeongjeong in a few minutes; if you drive, use the Gasa Literature district lot. (Show a driver: 환벽당)
