Dukkeobi Gejang (Bongsan-dong Crab Alley) 두꺼비게장 (봉산동 게장골목)

Yeosu · Old Downtown, Isunsin Square & Nangman Pocha · Meal

MealFood & marketsIndoor

Bongsan-dong's crab alley is the best-known place in Yeosu to eat gejang, raw crab marinated in soy sauce or red pepper paste. At this long-running restaurant, the set meal brings rice, soup and a table of side dishes, with the crab as the centerpiece. The crab is eaten by hand: crack the shell, scoop out the flesh and mix the rich roe into your rice.

It is very salty by design, so go easy on the sauce and pair it with plenty of rice. If raw seafood is not for you, ask whether a cooked fish dish is available. Expect a wait around peak hours; staff speak little English, but pointing at pictures works.
