Yeosu Seosijang Market — Yeosu Old Downtown, Isunsin Square & Nangman Pocha

A covered traditional market packed with Dolsan mustard-leaf kimchi, dried anchovies, fresh fish and grocery staples. It is a great place to pick up edible souvenirs, and some vendors will box and ship goods for you, so ask politely. Gat kimchi is the star: a strong, slightly bitter leafy kimchi that is a regional specialty, sold in jars.

Check airline rules before you pack kimchi in luggage, because the smell and juice can cause problems. Prices are usually lower than tourist shops, though they may change by season. Wandering the aisles takes about an hour.

Bring cash for small purchases.
