Uisangdae is a small wooden pavilion on a sea cliff, said to be where the monk Uisang sat in meditation before founding Naksansa. There is little to do here except stand at the rail and watch the sky change. The pine trees leaning over the rock make an easy frame, and on clear winter mornings the sun comes up almost exactly in front of you.

People start gathering well before dawn, so claim a spot early and bring a warm layer, because the wind on the point is sharper than it looks from the beach. Fifteen minutes is enough unless you are waiting for sunrise, and the stone steps can be slippery when wet.

Getting there

Enter through the Naksansa ticket gate and follow the paths toward the sea; the pavilion is a short walk past the main temple area. The walking time from the entrance varies, so leave extra margin. (Show a driver: 의상대)

Local tip
A tiny pavilion on a cliff edge that faces the horizon head-on, a famous sunrise spot. It sits inside the Naksansa grounds, so plan around the temple's opening hours.
