Waon Beach 와온해변
Suncheon · Suncheon Bay Wetland & National Garden · Parks & nature

Waon is a quiet fishing village on the edge of Suncheon Bay where the sun slips down behind a broad mudflat. At low tide the flats stretch out wet and glassy, so the sky is reflected twice and the colors turn from pink to deep orange. There is no sand for swimming, but there is a short seaside promenade, a small viewing deck and a few cafes and seafood restaurants.
Photographers arrive early and tripods line the edge on clear evenings, so the best spots go about an hour before sunset. It is far from public transit, which is why most people visit by car or taxi. Leashed dogs are fine along the road, but keep them off the mud.
About 30 to 35 minutes by car from downtown Suncheon. Buses are rare, so arrange a taxi round trip or rent a car. Parking by the shore is informal. (Show a driver: 와온해변)
