Abai Village 청호동 아바이마을
Sokcho · Cheongho-dong & Sokcho Beach · Sights
Families from the northeast fled here during the Korean War, expecting to return home soon, and instead built a permanent neighborhood on a sandbar by the harbor. Today the village is known for squid sundae, a steamed sausage-like dish, and for the hand-pulled raft that crosses a narrow channel to the market side. Walk the lanes, try a plate at one of the family restaurants, and read the murals and signs that retell the settlers' story.
Television dramas have featured the village, so weekends are busy. Take the gaetbae raft for a small cash fare, and keep coins ready. Check current hours.
From Sokcho Express Bus Terminal, it is a short taxi ride to the raft landing near the market. (Show a driver: 청호동 아바이마을)
