SightsHistory & palacesNature & parksOutdoor

Bongeunsa is an active Buddhist temple that dates back more than a thousand years, and it sits in a strange contrast with the glass towers of the COEX district across the road. A gate leads to halls surrounded by old pines and lawns, and a large standing Buddha statue stands in the center, easily visible from the street. The temple offers templestay programs for visitors who want an overnight stay, with meditation, tea and meals, and English options exist.

Remove your shoes in the halls and dress modestly. Entry is free for general visitors. Hours and programs may change, so check the temple's English website.

Getting there

Bongeunsa Station (봉은사역), Line 9, Exit 1, is a short walk to the temple gate. COEX Mall is across the road.
