Woo Lae Oak is one of Seoul's best-known Pyongyang-style naengmyeon restaurants, and generations of regulars come for its cold buckwheat noodles. The broth is clear and lightly seasoned, which suits people who prefer subtle flavors, and the noodles are thin, chewy and served with sliced beef and pear. The dining hall is large, with a calm, old-school atmosphere, and waiters are accustomed to serving visitors.

Prices are higher than at neighborhood noodle shops, so expect a special-occasion feel. The restaurant is closed one day a week. Menus and prices may change.

Getting there

Euljiro 4-ga Station (을지로4가역), Lines 2 and 5, is a short walk. The restaurant sits on a street near the old trading district.
