Gwangjang is one of Seoul's oldest traditional markets and the center of its street-food scene. Stalls line the central aisle, frying bindaetteok, rolling mayak gimbap, slicing yukhoe and stirring pots of tteokbokki, and diners sit elbow to elbow on benches. The seating arrangement is part of the fun, so be ready to share a table and point at what you want.

Photo menus and English signs are common, and staff are used to visitors. Come hungry and share plates, since portions can be large. Cash is useful at some stalls, although many take cards.

Prices and hours may change, and some stalls close in the late afternoon.

Getting there

Jongno 5-ga Station (종로5가역), Line 1, Exit 8, is next to the market. Euljiro 4-ga Station (을지로4가역) is also within walking distance.
