Changdeokgung Palace and Huwon Secret Garden 창덕궁 후원
Seoul · Jongno, Bukchon & Palaces · Sights
Changdeokgung is the palace that many historians say fits its natural setting best, and it has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site. Rather than follow a strict axis, its halls and gates are laid over the contours of the hill. Walk past Injeongjeon, the main hall, and then book the guided tour into Huwon, the Secret Garden, where ponds, pavilions and old trees fill the valley behind.
Tours move on a schedule, with English tours on specific times, so reserve ahead through the official website. Fees apply, hanbok wearers are free to the palace, and hours may change.
Anguk Station (안국역), Line 3 Exit 3, is a five-minute walk. Follow the street straight to the main gate, Donhwamun.
