Ikseon-dong Hanok Alley 익선동 한옥골목
Seoul · Jongno, Bukchon & Palaces · Sights
Ikseon-dong keeps the narrowest hanok lanes in central Seoul, with tiny homes that were turned into dessert cafes, restaurants, craft shops and small bars. Some alleys are only wide enough for two people to walk side by side, which gives the area an intimate feel even though it is now very popular. The best moments are in the late afternoon when the lights come on and the old tiled roofs glow, and the courtyards fill with the smell of coffee and baked goods.
Residents still live in a few homes, so keep voices low. Many places have a one-drink-per-person rule. Hours are mixed, prices may change, and weekends can be crowded.
Jongno 3-ga Station (종로3가역), Lines 1, 3 and 5, Exit 4, is about a five-minute walk. Follow the signs for Ikseon-dong.
