Jeondong Catholic Cathedral 전동성당
Jeonju · Hanok Village · Sights
The cathedral's red and gray brick towers and round domes look transplanted from Europe, yet the building rises in the middle of a hanok neighborhood, which is exactly why people love it. It stands on the ground where early Korean Catholics were martyred in the nineteenth century, and the church was completed in the early twentieth century in a Romanesque and Byzantine style. Walking in is usually free; keep voices low during services.
After dark, floodlights turn the brick warm gold, and the church becomes one of the best evening views in town.
It is directly opposite the main gate of Gyeonggijeon Shrine in the Hanok Village. From Jeonju Station, take a city bus or taxi toward the Hanok Village, a ride of roughly 20 minutes. (Show a driver: 전동성당)
