Manjanggul Lava Tube 만장굴

Jeju · Hamdeok & Gujwa · Sights

SightsNature & parksHistory & palacesIndoor

A UNESCO-listed lava tube, one of the longest in the world, formed when flowing lava hardened on the outside and drained from within. Only a part of the cave is open, and the walk is along a lit path that takes about an hour round trip. The temperature inside stays cool all year, so bring a light jacket, and wear shoes with good grip because the ground is wet.

Look for the large lava column near the end, a striking formation. Access rules have changed in recent years, so check whether the cave is open before you travel. Calling ahead or checking the map listing avoids surprises.

Getting there

It is about 50 minutes by car from Jeju Airport, with a large parking lot at the visitor center. Buses on the east route stop at the Manjanggul entrance. (Show a driver: 만장굴)
