Seokjang-ri Museum 석장리박물관
Gongju · Geum River & Sinkwan-dong · Museums & exhibits

A museum built beside the riverside site where Korea's first Paleolithic excavation took place in the 1960s, which opened up the study of the Old Stone Age on the peninsula. Exhibits explain how early people lived, with tools, reconstructed scenes and models of hunting. Outside, a prehistoric park by the Geum River has replica dwellings, trails and open lawn, so children can run around after the galleries.
Hands-on programs such as making stone tools or lighting fires take place on some days. Entrance is a small fee. It is rather remote from the center, so a taxi or car helps.
Most labels are in Korean, but the visuals work without it.
A taxi from the bus terminal takes about 20 minutes, since buses are infrequent. Parking is free on site. (Show a driver: 석장리박물관)
