Hyuhyuam Temple — Yangyang Jukdo, Ingu & Namae
Photo: Korea Tourism Organization (KOGL)

Hyuhyuam is a small temple on the shore where large flat rocks reach into the sea. A huge seated Buddha statue overlooks the water, and one of the rocks is shaped like a turtle, which draws many visitors. The mood is calm, and the scale is small, so a visit takes about an hour.

Clear mornings show the colours best. Wave action can be strong, so stay back from the edge on rough days and follow signs. The site is free.

Dress modestly in the temple area and speak quietly. Bring a hat in summer.

Getting there

It lies beside Route 7 in Hyeonnam-myeon, with a dedicated lot. It takes about five minutes by car from Jukdo Beach. (Show a driver: 휴휴암)
