38th Parallel Rest Area 38선휴게소
Yangyang · Hajodae, Gisamun & Dongho · Sights
This roadside stop marks the 38th parallel, the line that divided Korea before the war. The area around Yangyang was north of the line until the armistice, a bit of history that adds meaning to the view. A monument stands by the rest area, and the sea stretches in front.
Food stalls sell chicken gangjeong and simple snacks. It is a quick stop of around thirty minutes. Facilities include toilets and a small shop.
It is free and always open. Make sure you park safely, because the road is busy, and avoid walking along the highway verge.
It is on the coastal national road in Hyeonbuk-myeon, with its own car park. Buses along the coast stop nearby. Yangyang Airport is a short drive. (Show a driver: 38선휴게소)
