Hajodae 하조대
Yangyang · Hajodae, Gisamun & Dongho · Sights

Hajodae is a promontory where weathered cliffs, twisted pines and a small pavilion look out over the East Sea, and it is one of the most photographed spots in the county. A short path loops from the entrance to the pavilion and to a small lighthouse, with sea views on both sides. The name is linked with two Joseon-era officials said to have admired the place, though stories vary.
Sunsets are lovely, but the paths lack lighting and can be hard to see after dark, so go an hour early. It is free and takes about seventy minutes at a relaxed pace.
Drive to the Hajodae car park and walk up the path. From Yangyang town, it takes about twenty minutes by car; buses are infrequent. Yangyang Airport is relatively close. (Show a driver: 하조대)
