Hangyeryeong Rest Area 한계령휴게소
Yangyang · Osaek, Hangyeryeong & Seomyeon · Night view
Hangyeryeong is the mountain pass on Route 44 that links the east coast with inland Gangwon, and the rest area at the top is a classic viewpoint. On a clear day you look across layered ridgelines of Seoraksan, and in the early morning clouds fill the valleys below. The drive itself, with hairpin bends and steep drop-offs, is part of the experience.
A small cafe and snack shop sit at the stop. In winter, ice and fog can close the road, so check the weather and road status before setting out. The air is cold even in summer, so bring a jacket.
Public transport is minimal.
Drive up Route 44 from Osaek or down from Inje; there is no regular bus to the summit, so a car is needed. (Show a driver: 한계령휴게소)
