Gwaneumam Hermitage 관음암
Tongyeong · Mireuk Island & Cable Car · Sights
Gwaneumam is a small hermitage tucked into the hillside above Misu-dong, and it is not a major tourist site. The reward is quiet: a short climb, stone steps, a few modest halls and sea views through the trees. Entry is free, and visitors should keep voices low and avoid entering rooms where monks live or pray.
The trail is steep in places, so wear sturdy shoes and bring water, as nothing is sold nearby. The route is easy to combine with a walk along the undersea tunnel and canal. Signs in English may be absent, so a map app helps.
If you want a peaceful half hour away from crowds, this suits well.
Take a taxi from the old town, about 10 minutes, and walk up a short slope from the road. (Show a driver: 관음암)
