Choyeonjeong Pavilion 초연정원림

Suncheon · Jogyesan, Songgwangsa & Seonamsa · Sights

SightsHistory & palacesNature & parksOutdoorPet-friendly

A quiet pavilion perched on rocks above a mountain stream, built in the Joseon period as a place for scholars to rest and write. Few tourists make the trip, which is part of the appeal. Sitting on the wooden floor you can hear water moving over the rocks, with pines and boulders around.

It is small, so the visit takes about 30 to 40 minutes, and it is more about atmosphere than sightseeing. The access road is narrow and parking is limited, so a car is the easiest way. Avoid visiting after heavy rain because the path and rocks can be slippery.

Bring water, since there are no shops nearby. Leashed dogs are fine.

Getting there

A drive of around 45 minutes from downtown Suncheon along narrow roads. Taxi is possible but arrange the return trip in advance. (Show a driver: 초연정원림)
