Songgwangsa Temple 송광사
Suncheon · Jogyesan, Songgwangsa & Seonamsa · Sights

Songgwangsa is regarded as the Sangha Jewel temple, a place associated with the Seon Buddhist tradition and with many noted monks. Halls and pavilions are scattered along a valley and a stream, with bridges, gates and stone steps that reward a slow stroll. The main hall is imposing, and the surrounding forest gives the temple a hush that big-city sites lack.
Behave as you would in any active temple, with quiet voices, modest clothing and shoes off where signed. The temple runs a temple-stay program, but reserve in advance. Allow about two hours on site, plus the walk from the car park.
From Suncheon, take an intercity or local bus toward Songgwangsa (about 50 minutes; confirm times at the bus terminal) or a taxi of around 40 minutes. Drivers can park near the temple gate. (Show a driver: 송광사)
