Sinheungsa Temple 신흥사
Sokcho · Seoraksan & Nohak-dong · Sights

Just inside the Seoraksan National Park gate stands one of the region's best-known Buddhist temples, set against granite peaks. A large bronze seated Buddha greets you on the approach, and the main hall courtyard is calm even when the road outside is busy. Most people treat it as a gentle warm-up before the cable car or the valley trail, and a visit takes about an hour.
Dress modestly, keep your voice low, and do not step into halls where worship is under way. In April the grounds fill with cherry blossoms, and in late October the slopes behind the roofs turn red and gold. Park admission is reportedly free now, but confirm on site.
From Sokcho Express Bus Terminal or Sokcho Intercity Bus Terminal, take local bus 7 or 7-1 to the last stop at the Seoraksan entrance (설악산소공원), then walk about 20 minutes uphill. A taxi from downtown takes around 25 minutes. (Show a driver: 신흥사)
