Seoraksan Sogongwon Plaza 설악산소공원
Sokcho · Seoraksan & Nohak-dong · Sights

Think of this as the front door to Seoraksan National Park. The open plaza holds ticket points, restrooms, a few shops and a bronze bear statue, and the main roads for the cable car, the temple and the mountain trails all begin here. Many first-time visitors only come to take a photo with the peaks in the background, which is fine, because the mountain walls rise right behind the plaza.
In cherry-blossom season and in autumn, it can feel crowded, so arrive early. A short stroll along the stream gives the quickest taste of the park before you decide how far to go. Details on fees may change, so check the information board.
Local buses 7 and 7-1 from Sokcho stop right here (설악산소공원), taking about 25 to 40 minutes from the bus terminals. By car, use the paid parking lot below the plaza. (Show a driver: 설악산소공원)
