Hyangchon Cultural Center 향촌문화관
Daegu · Jung-gu Old Downtown · Museums & exhibits

This exhibition hall recreates Hyangchon-dong, the neighborhood where poets, painters and musicians sheltered in Daegu during the Korean War and turned the city into a temporary cultural capital. Rooms inside an old bank building re-stage a 1950s teahouse, tailor, bookshop and bar in grainy black-and-white detail, with handwritten manuscripts and portraits of the writers who drank there. The real treat is downstairs, where Nokhyang, one of the country's oldest classical music rooms, plays records on a vintage sound system.
Wording is Korean-first, but the atmosphere explains itself.
From Subway Line 1 Jungangno Station exit 4, walk about three minutes. Parking is easiest at the nearby Gyeongsang Gamyeong Park lot. (Show a driver: 향촌문화관)
