Jukrim-dong Cathedral 죽림동 주교좌성당

Chuncheon · Myeongdong & Jungang Market · Sights

SightsHistory & palacesPhoto spotsOutdoor

This Catholic cathedral stands on a small hill and is built in a grey stone style that looks surprisingly European for a Korean provincial city. It was completed in the years after the Korean War, and the compound feels calm compared with the busy market just below. Most visitors walk around the courtyard, look at the facade and take photos of the old-town rooftops from the slope.

The interior is open to quiet visitors outside services, but Mass times are best avoided, and you should dress modestly and keep your voice low. It takes about half an hour, which makes it a good pause between the market and the dakgalbi lane.

Getting there

Walk up the road south of Chuncheon Jungang Market, or climb the stairs that connect from the end of Yuklim-gogae Alley. Car access is awkward, so go on foot. (Show a driver: 죽림동 주교좌성당)
