Haedong Yonggungsa Temple 해동용궁사
Busan · Gijang & Songjeong · Sights
Most Korean temples hide in mountains, but Haedong Yonggungsa clings to rocks above the East Sea, with waves breaking beneath its halls. According to tradition it was founded in the 14th century, and it has been rebuilt since. A long stairway leads down to the main hall, past gates, Buddhist statues and lanterns, with the sea constantly in view.
Mornings are the best time, since the temple becomes crowded as tour groups arrive. Entry is free, and visitors should dress modestly and stay quiet near prayers. Allow time for the stairs and for uneven rocks.
Hours may change on holidays.
