Halmae Gaya Milmyeon 할매가야밀면

Busan · Nampo-dong, Jagalchi & Yeongdo · Meal

MealFood & marketsHistory & palacesIndoor

Tucked on a back street near the main shopping avenue, this old-fashioned shop serves milmyeon, Busan's wheat noodles, with a richly flavored cold broth. The noodles are chewy, topped with sliced meat, pickled radish and a swirl of seasoning, and the soup has a stronger, beefier taste than its Seoul cousins. Add steamed or fried dumplings for a hearty lunch.

Locals come as much for the nostalgia as the noodles. The dining room is simple, and staff speak mostly Korean, so a photo menu helps. Prices and opening hours may change, and queues form at midday.

Local tip
A veteran milmyeon shop in a Nampo side street. The cold broth noodles (mul-milmyeon) have a deeper flavor, and adding dumplings makes it a full meal.
