Chungcheong Sooyeongseong Fortress — Boryeong Ocheon Port, Sooyeongseong & Wonsando
Photo: Korea Tourism Organization (KOGL)

Sooyeongseong was the headquarters of the Joseon navy for the Chungcheong region, and its stone walls and gates still stand on a low hill above Ocheon Port. A short walk along the ramparts leads to Yeongbojeong, a pavilion with views across the harbor and out to the islands. Inside the walls you will find restored government buildings and information panels, some possibly in English.

The place also has a sunset reputation among locals, and the light on the stone is lovely in the evening. Entry is free as far as we know, and the walk takes about an hour.

Getting there

From Daecheon Station take a taxi (about 25 minutes) or drive; buses to Ocheon exist but are infrequent. Free parking is near the fortress. (Show a driver: 충청수영성)
