Buyongdae Cliff 부용대
Andong · Hahoe Village & Byeongsan Seowon · Parks & nature
Rising about sixty meters on the opposite bank, this cliff offers the one view that shows Hahoe in full: the river curving around the village like a lotus. The name Buyong means lotus. From the top you see rooftops, fields and pines on a scale you cannot grasp from inside the village.
The Hwacheon Seowon academy and the old study houses Gyeomamjeongsa and Okyeonjeongsa stand at its foot. Climbing takes roughly ten minutes from the parking area on that side, with some steep stretches. Take care at the edge, especially with children.
A night fire show is occasionally staged from the cliff; check dates, as reservations may apply.
By car go to the Gwangdeok-ri parking area on the far side of the river, about 40 minutes from the old town. From the village a seasonal ferry may cross. (Show a driver: 부용대)
