Andong Hahoe Village 안동 하회마을
Andong · Hahoe Village & Byeongsan Seowon · Sights

The Nakdong River draws a tight S-curve around this village, which is why the name means 'river turns back'. Members of the Pungsan Ryu clan have lived here for about six centuries, and in 2010 it was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage list along with Yangdong Village. Thatched cottages and tile-roofed mansions stand shoulder to shoulder, with the grand houses Chunghyodang and Yangjindang at its core.
A pine grove lines the river and an old zelkova tree called Samsindang has paper wishes tied to it. Families still live here, so enter only open houses and keep your voice low. Allow two hours or more; fees and shuttle times can change.
From Andong Bus Terminal or Andong Station take a bus toward the Hahoe Market stop, about an hour, then ride the free shuttle in. A taxi is simpler, about 40 minutes. (Show a driver: 하회마을)
