Seopirang Hillside Village 서피랑
Tongyeong · Old Town, Gangguan & Dongpirang · Sights
Seopirang sits on the western side of the harbor, facing Dongpirang across the water, and sees far fewer tour groups. A steep stone staircase known as the 99 Steps climbs to a small lookout and the site associated with the novelist Park Kyung-ni's childhood home. The attraction here is less about paint and more about old walls, a village well and low roofs, with slices of sea showing between the houses.
Residents outnumber tourists, so it feels like an ordinary neighborhood on a slope. Wear shoes with grip, because the stairs are uneven, and bring water in warm months. It makes a good counterpoint to the busier mural village.
The stairs start in the lanes behind Seoho market, about 10 minutes on foot from Gangguan Harbor. (Show a driver: 서피랑)
