Sokcho's biggest covered market packs fried chicken, steamed squid sundae, fried shrimp, fish cakes and fresh produce into a few busy lanes. The most famous snack is dakgangjeong, small pieces of crispy chicken coated in a sticky sweet and spicy glaze; most shops sell it by the box so you can carry it away. Grazing is the best plan: share portions, try a few stalls and save room.

Aisles are narrow and crowded on weekends, so watch your bags and your food. Most shops take cards, but small stalls like cash. Prices and hours may change, and some stalls close earlier than others.
