Dong-A Bookstore — Sokcho Jungang Market & Dongmyeong
Photo: Korea Tourism Organization (KOGL)

This independent bookstore has been a local fixture for generations, and walking in feels like stepping into a small town living room. Shelves hold novels, essays and art books, mostly in Korean, along with stationery and gift items. Even if you cannot read the spines, the layout, wood shelves and hand-written recommendation cards are worth a look.

Staff are friendly but quiet, and browsing is welcome; photography etiquette applies, so ask before taking pictures of customers. Prices are standard. Opening hours may vary, so check a map app.

It is a calm contrast to the busier food streets nearby.
