Saebyeol Oreum 새별오름
Jeju · Hallasan & Saebyeol Oreum · Parks & nature
A cone-shaped volcanic hill on the western plain, covered in grass that turns golden in autumn. A path goes straight up the slope, and the climb takes about half an hour, steep in places. From the top, views run from the sea to Hallasan, and the whole slope glows at sunset.
In October the silver grass is at its best, and on a clear evening, the sunset is one of the best on the island. Wear sneakers because the path is dusty, and bring a windbreaker. Entry is free, and a mid-day visit is hot in summer.
It is about 35 minutes by car from Jeju Airport, with a parking lot at the foot of the hill. Buses along the Pyeonghwa road reach the area, but a car is easier. (Show a driver: 새별오름)
