Songwol-dong Fairytale Village — Incheon Open Port District & Wolmido
Photo: Korea Tourism Organization (KOGL)

Painted storybook scenes cover the walls of a small residential neighborhood, from Snow White and Cinderella to Alice and the Little Mermaid. Dolls, murals and a few sculptures turn a rather ordinary slope of old houses into a photo walk. The streets are narrow and steep in places, so comfortable shoes help.

Keep in mind this is a living community rather than a theme park; photographing the artwork is welcome, but peeking into homes is not. Some displays have faded over the years, so treat it as a light stroll and not a major attraction. Allow about an hour, including the climb from Chinatown.

Getting there

Walk about ten minutes uphill from the Chinatown gate near Incheon Station (인천역). (Show a driver: 송월동 동화마을)

Show this Korean name to your taxi driver or match it to signs: 송월동 동화마을

Best time to visit
Morning light is soft and quiet; avoid noisy groups in the late afternoon when residents are home.
Pair it with
Incheon Chinatown is directly below, and Jayu Park is a pleasant uphill walk away.
Great for
Couples, Families with kids
Local tip
Real families live here, so keep your voice down near doorways and windows. The village connects to Chinatown on foot, so treat it as the second half of one outing.
