Gyochon Hanok Village & Gyerim Forest 교촌마을·계림

Gyeongju · Daereungwon, Hwangnidan-gil & Downtown · Sights

SightsHistory & palacesPhoto spotsOutdoor

A cluster of traditional tile-roofed houses sits on the south bank of the stream, and the best known is the Choe Clan Mansion, a large hanok that is open to visitors and was reportedly free to enter. Walk through the courtyards, look at the tiled roof lines, and stop at small craft and snack shops along the lane. A short walk north, the Gyerim forest is a shaded stretch of old trees tied to Silla legend, with paths that lead on toward Cheomseongdae.

Plan an hour for the whole stretch, more if you linger over tea. Some of the shops may close on weekdays, and rules for entering private houses vary, so check signs on site.

Getting there

From Cheomseongdae Observatory, walk about ten minutes through Gyerim forest. A public parking lot sits at the west end of the village. (Show a driver: 교촌마을)
