Gameunsa Temple Site 감은사지
Gyeongju · East Coast & Gampo · Sights
Two tall stone pagodas stand in an open field, the last major traces of a temple built by the Silla court. Their scale and plain lines make them feel almost abstract against the sky, and at sunset the backlight turns them into silhouettes. There is little else on the site except grass and the foundations of former halls, so a visit takes about forty minutes.
No admission is charged. Buses run infrequently, so check the return times or use a taxi. Spring and autumn bring colorful fields.
Bring water, since there is little shade, and check on site for any English signs.
Walk about 15 minutes from the Bonggil-ri stop. There is a free parking lot at the site. (Show a driver: 감은사지)
