Sinwonsa Temple 신원사
Gongju · Gyeryongsan: Gapsa & Donghaksa · Sights

A temple on the southern side of Gyeryongsan, much calmer than the better-known ones. Within the grounds stands Jungakdan, one of the altars where the Joseon court once held rituals for the mountain spirit, which gives the visit a historical angle. The buildings are old and unpretentious, and few tour groups come, so it is easy to wander at your own pace.
Admission is free in practice. It is a good choice for parents or anyone who prefers a quiet visit to a famous one. Allow about an hour.
A car or taxi is the sensible way to reach it, and a meal at a nearby restaurant fits well.
A car or taxi is best, about 40 minutes from Gongju. Parking at the temple. (Show a driver: 신원사)
