Straw-fire grilled hagfish is a Gijang specialty. A cook roasts whole fish over a roaring straw flame, scraping off the burnt skin before cutting them into pieces for you. The result is smoky and chewy, a little like grilled squid with a sharper smoky edge, and it is often dipped in sesame oil with salt or in chili paste.

A table of side dishes, lettuce and garlic usually comes with it. It is a good meal to eat when you come back from the temple. The setting is casual and the dish is hearty, so it suits adults and older children more than small kids.

Confirm opening days locally, because small grill houses sometimes close without notice.
