Boryeong Coal Museum 보령석탄박물관
Boryeong · Boryeong Downtown, Seongjusan & Gaehwa · Museums & exhibits

Coal mining was once a major industry in the Seongju mountains, and this museum preserves that history with exhibits on how miners lived and worked. The highlight is a recreated mine tunnel, built to look like a real working shaft, with mannequins, tools and lighting that give a sense of the cramped conditions. Other halls explain how coal fueled Korea's postwar industrial growth.
It is mostly indoors, so it works on a rainy day, and children enjoy the tunnel more than the text panels. English signage is limited, so a translation app helps. Admission is low and may change.
From Boryeong city take a taxi, about 25 to 30 minutes; buses are infrequent. By car it is a short drive from Gaehwa Art Park. (Show a driver: 보령석탄박물관)
