Mammoth Bakery (Mammoseu Jegwa) 맘모스제과
Andong · Downtown & Old Market · Cafe
Cream cheese bread is the reason people queue at this decades-old bakery on Culture Street. The loaf has a plain, soft crumb and a thick, tangy filling that is more sour than sweet, and it travels well on a train. Citrus-flavored pound cake and walnut cake are the other favorites to take home as presents.
A few seats let you sit with coffee, though weekends see mostly takeout. The best loaves can sell out in the afternoon, so decide early if you want a particular flavor. A second branch exists near the new station, but the street shop gives the old-town feel.
Prices are modest, and cards are accepted.
It is on Andong Culture Street, a five-minute walk from Jjimdak Alley; a city bus or taxi from the KTX station takes about 15 minutes. (Show a driver: 맘모스제과)
